A photographic project series that tells an important story…

Shoot Type: Product, Event + Project Photography |
Client: World Wildlife Fund (WWF) | Location: Auckland City

In 2022 we worked in collaboration with Pop That to document the WWF’s and Wild In Arts Whale Tales art trail. These bespoke pieces of art by well-known and emerging kiwi artists and schools, dotted the streets, parks and open spaces of Tāmaki Makaurau. The Tail Sculptures – inspired by the endangered Bryde’s whale – told the “tales” of our moana and how we all have a part to play for a healthy ocean.

Pop That helped with content marketing and creating a virtual trail for people to engage with via an app. We were hired to cover the stills photography for the project including:

  • Catalogue/product shots of each large tail. We created a studio that could fit and light 1.8m wide tails evenly, to show the art clearly with minimal reflection.

  • Photos of the Launch Day event with sponsors and organisers.

  • In-situ photographs. We photographed the tails in public, at the locations they were displayed at.

  • Farewell Weekend. A public event at Silo Park and the final auction that Monday night.
